REJECTION

When you pick roses, don't be surprised to catch a few thorns. The same can be said for the title of this post. There is no other way of putting it; rejection is part of the process. However, saying this does not help to lessen the pain, as you are going through it. Putting things in perspective can be facilitated by implementing tried and true mental frameworks.

1). CONVICTION:

If you believe in your business with all your heart, if you can look at yourself in the mirror with pride because the product is that good - rejection means nothing. You need to be a zealot. The best example of this is a true Born-Again Christian. Watching them evangelize is a sight to behold. They are in the business of saving souls. Being spit on, hit, and cussed out doesn't matter because they are doing God's work.

To succeed long-term, you need to be equally sold on your company, and your dream.

2). Business v. Personal:

Being rejected is not "one size hurts all." The interpretation that it is, will only lead to unnecessary suffering. Someone who deeply cares for you, pushing you away is not the same as a total stranger being uninterested in your product. How many texts and emails have you ignored? How many telemarketers have you hung up on? All of that is rejection, it's just that now the shoe is on the other foot. You won't talk to these people every day, you won't eat dinner with them at night - you should not care what they think. I promise you they won't care what you think. It's not personal.

3). Accept it:

You will never get to a point where being shunned has zero effect on you. It's human nature to care what others think. The goal should be to lower the time that you dwell on that negative energy. It's like a skydiver who has something catastrophic happen to their canopy, but they live. They need to get back in the air immediately. Otherwise, they will dwell on that incident until they either never go back up, or manifest that problem into reality the next time they do. Dust off, and get back in the saddle. Nothing lasts forever.

"Losers fear rejection more than mediocrity."
